Wall climbing Robots
3 idiots ! remember, yes this was the movie which introduced the flying vehicles i.e. drones to the common people either ways hardly people knew about this before. We have heard a lot about the flying drones, which are now becoming common in the luxurious functions and the marriages. Drones are also known as the unmanned flying vehicles. Pizza delivery drones are also becoming famous. They are very light in weight and available in various sizes and attractive shapes. Also useful in military applications.
No doubt it is one of the most interesting projects for the student. But have you ever thought in the presence of various flying super heroes what made spider man famous, that was his climbing capability. Things climbing always seems exiting. We see in various horror movies things and the humans walking on the walls and the floors but practically for humans its bit difficult to perform such jobs, so lets make things walk on the wall. As drones there are various climbing robots available in the market . few robots are discussed below.
Vertigo is the most advance climbing robot presented by the Disney recently in April 2016. The robot is able to move on a wall quickly. The use of two propellers instead of one enables a floor-to-wall transition – thrust is applied both towards the wall using the rear propeller, and in an upward direction using the front propeller, resulting in a flip onto the wall. Computer is used as the controller for the vertigo.
Gecko robot uses Vander Waals forces and artificial satae. These forces are the attractive or repulsive forces between molecules. But still it is not clear what kind of molecular interactions might be going on to explain the lizard climbing process. Microscopic foot hairs are called ‘satae’. Satae is made up of keratinous material, ashuman toenails.Still it remains clean even when lizards moves across dirty surfaces.
Larva robot uses adhesion mechanism composed of an impeller and two layered suction seal,which has high demands wall surface roughness and needs air pumps. It is designed to provide sufficient adhesion force and be controlled so that the robot can move freely on various wall surfaces. The static and aerodynamic modeling of the adhesion mechanism is given and the analysis of the adhesion mechanism, air leakage are carried out to be useful for the design as well as the control. Finally, the performances of the robot are experimentally varied on several kinds of walls and its feasibility is validated.
Parrot Drone uses four propellers and aerodynamics to y the drone. Parrot AR.Drone is a remote controlled flying quadcopter helicopter built by the French company Parrot. The drone is designed to be controlled by mobile or tablet operating systems such as the supported iOS or Android within their respective apps or the uncial software available for Windows Phone, Samsung BADA and Symbian devices.
